Odette D’Aniello: 00:52

Thanks, Karen. Hi, everybody. Happy Valentine’s day. Thanks for attending this webinar. I would love to just start. My name is Odette D’Aniello.

I’m the founder and CEO of Celebrity Gourmet Ventures in Tacoma, Washington. Our company has been in business under the brands Celebrity Cake Studio and Dragonfly Cakes for the past 25 years. So this session is about the what’s love got to do with it. And it is. We’re going to be talking about how to align our passions with our profession.

To start this session, I’d like to have a quote from Nelson Mandela. There is no passion to be found in playing small, in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living. Nelson Mandela in that photo is of my daughter. This past weekend we were on a road trip and she was very happy about being in the dunes. And that I think, personifies passion.

So the agenda for today, it’s going to be 45 minutes or less. Hopefully it will be less so that I can give you back your day. It’s a little bit about me understanding your passion and life is short. Why wait? The five strategies to identify and understand your personal passions five creative ways to align your passions with your business and your career objectives five techniques for building resilience in the face of challenges and five minutes or not, depending on how fast we go.

Questions and answers and key takeaways. So I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Odette D’Aniello. Like I said, I run a bakery. So this webinar is really from somebody who’s been in the trenches of the bakery and specialty food business for the past 25 years.

I grew up in the bakery business. That was me when I was four years old, in my grand uncle’s bakery in Cebu, Washington. My grand uncle’s right there cutting his cake. I raised my family in the bakery business. That’s my adult children now.

That’s my daughter and my son and my husband at a wedding show. I’ve decorated cakes since I was ten. I run a company with my sister Marianne, and we distribute products under the brand Dragonfly Cakes around the country. And we’ve been doing that for the past seven years. And the reason why I’m doing this is because I have a lot of passion around entrepreneurship and the bakery and food space.

And when I was talking about when I’m talking about passion, it really is about what truly excites and energizes us both personally and professionally, and identifying and understanding what that means and the positive impact that it will have on our professional journey, especially in the bakery and specialty food industry, because it is such a challenging industry from my experience Last webinar, and this is a 12 month webinar that I’ve committed to with eBay. We talked about our ikigai or our what is our life’s purpose. And the ikigai is a Japanese term for what really gives fire in your heart. And that is an intersection of what you love, what the world needs, what you can get paid for, and what you’re good at. And the first thing that we’re going to talk about in this webinar is our passion, which is the intersection of what you love and what you’re good at.

And some of the questions that we can ask ourselves is, what is it that you would pay to get to do, and when do you feel the most joy? And what are some things that put you in flow and what gives you energy? And also what do you enjoy doing even if it goes unrecognized? So those are some of the questions that you could ask yourself when really thinking about what you’re passionate about. So the reason why I spend the time doing these webinars, knowing that I do have a really busy schedule and a busy life with a growing business, etc. there is a website that I love.

It’s called wait but why? You know why wait? This is a short. So somebody created a graphic of what 90 years of human life looks like. So these little squares right here are diamonds.

That’s what it looks like in 90 years. So, you know, at 50 you’re more than halfway. And this is this part is the 90 years in human life in months. So each row is three years. So think about like what you’ve already lived and what you have left over.

So and think of living a life that you don’t enjoy And what you have left over. And why not just live what you enjoy with a life that you have left over? And here is a graphic of the nine years in human life in weeks. And then this is very telling of like the 90. You know this isn’t days.

So this is exactly what you would have left. So my reason why I’m doing this webinar is because I would love for everyone, including me, to live a life of passion and love. So this is some ways we can do it. So first of all, we need to identify and understand our personal passions, right? So one of the ways that I personally do it is I journal.

So so self-reflection and introspection. Introspection is so important. So journaling. I’ve spent time a lot journaling, and a lot of my journaling is about really what I dream about. So I would write about exactly the life I want to live.

You know what kind of things really brought me that made me happy today? So that kind of distills for me all the things that I’m passionate about. There’s also a values clarification exercise that I’d be happy to share with you. We did it in our last webinar of really reflecting on our core values, for example, creativity, helping others, learning and identity, and identifying activities that align with those core values, and also mindfulness, being silent and paying attention to our internal signals when engaging in different activities. And then really noticing what energizes us and what keeps that heart calm and that makes us, makes us feel a sense of flow.

The next way is to, in finding our passion, is to experiment and explore. So try new things. Step outside your comfort zone and experiment with different hobbies, classes, or volunteer opportunities. Currently, my daughter and I did Moss Art, which was really fun. She’s very much into making signs out of a LaserJet laser cutter.

So and I really love I love to paint. I do little kind of, you know, drawings. I doodle a lot. So experiment on what you know, what you’re comfortable with. And you know what?

Really dare to share it. So I love to teach, apparently, because this is really bringing me joy being in this webinar. I love to teach. I have a degree in it and I have not been doing it for many, many years. So that is, I’m realizing that although, you know, sitting here teaching a webinar to, you know, to all of you is not in my comfort zone.
